I have been a show breeder of Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers since 1993. I imported the first Lagotto Romagnolo to Arizona in 2005 from Croatia. She was followed by Merlino, Vando and Ginevra from Italy.
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) has included the Lagotto breed in their CHIC registry. To qualify for a CHIC number, we must complete several DNA tests, have hips scored, eye tested and knees rated. While it doesn’t guarantee good scores, it gives the puppy buyer the opportunity to make sure the breeder has conducted the tests, and a way to check on those results. Here is a copy of Pesca’s certificate of CHIC Number:
So we had to retire our X-pen when Ori was able to leap over the edge. I have had a puppy who could climb over a pen, but Ori was just leaping high enough to grab hold of the top edge and pull herself over. This was an omen of things to come, as we have found her out in our front yard, meaning she has jumped over the edge of our porch. So now we install more wire!
Ori loves water and amuses herself by dunking her head in and digging. The buckets are always mucky and mostly empty. Some folks have asked if she is available, but the answer is not at this time. I plan to show her and after she is health tested, decide if she is worthy of breeding
Our little Blue collar boy has gone to his new home with two children to keep him busy. We now have just the little brown girl. Her first night alone, she cried for a bit, because she was lonely. She got over it and has gotten used to being our new baby.
